Boston Wine Expo. Oenophiles rejoice in mid-February, when the Boston Wine Expo returns to the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center. Featured are tasting seminars, vintner dinners, hundreds of exhibition booths, and a Grand Cru Wine Lounge. Spring

Summer

Harborfest. Boston's six-day July 4 celebration sponsors more than 200 events, including Revolutionary War reenactments, special museum exhibits, and free concerts. Massachusetts. www.bostonharborfest.com.

Fall

Boston Film Festival. Get "reel" at the weeklong fall Boston Film Festival at Theatre 1 at the Stuart Street Playhouse at The Revere Hotel. At BFF, top independent films premiere, many with Massachusetts ties. 200 Stuart St., Theater District, Boston, Massachusetts. www.bostonfilmfestival.org.

Head of the Charles Regatta. In mid-October, sculling crew teams compete in the world-famous Head of the Charles Regatta, now in its 50th year. The world's largest two-day rowing event draws athletes from their teens to their 80s, collegians and clubbers, from England, Australia, and worldwide. Fall Outside the City

Working Waterfront Festival. New Bedford's commercial anglers, celebrating America's oldest industry, cast their nets and strut their stuff at the Working Waterfront Festival, showcasing their skills (and fresh seafood) in fishing demos. There's also live entertainment; this festival is free and held the last weekend in September. State Pier, New Bedford, Massachusetts. www.workingwaterfrontfestival.org.

Essex County’s Topsfield Fair (www.topsfieldfair.org) happens in October; Salem hosts witch trial reenactments and other Haunted Happenings (www.hauntedhappenings.com).
